Once again Azhar Ali nominated as the captain of Pakistan cricket team, but this time for the test format of the game. He led the Pakistan ODI team in 2015-16 but the performance of the team under his captaincy was below average. Pakistan lost first ever ODI series against Bangladesh under Azhar’s captaincy. In 2016 against England, Pakistan conceded 444 runs in the 3rd ODI of the series. Pakistan lost the ODI series against Bangladesh, England, New Zealand and Austrailia under Azhar’s captaincy.
Although he is one of the finest batsmen of the world, but he did’t yet proved himself as a good leader.
