Using VLC media to extract sound from videos

I have many videos with bird sounds  I wanted to use those bird chirps as background music for my other videos.  I succeeded in doing it by using VLC 

You just open VLC, click on media, click on save/convert and post the video link that has the chirps. 

Was happy with the results
