My old desktop is still a Pentium that needs the small battery called CMOS battery. CMOS means complementary metal oxide semiconductor. It is a small storage that holds the setting of the boot strap including the date and time. The CMOS is run by a small battery. When the battery loses power then the date may run awry or the time will be wrong. Worse, the startup would ask for the setting.
I am luck that a friend gave me used batteries that I can still use for my desktop. After changing the battery, the desktop is back to normal.
