The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety conducted this research which aim was to secure the traveler seating in 2nd seat in the car since a lot work has been done to secure the front seat in shape of air bag etc.
For front seat , there are special belt and air bag facility but for 2nd seats just a belt to reduce the severity the blow in case of an accident. According to the investigation report, people riding on the 2nd seats were more likely to suffer. The reason was no air bag and in some case no seat belt as well.
Research said, that car manufacturer will have to play their role in this matter. In this research, 117 accidents were reviewed, people sitting on the 2nd seat either died or either severely injured and disabled.The research also revealed that absence of seat belts on 2nd seat caused the accident and most passengers were injured on the chest and the head.
