Castor Seed Pods In Macro

Wild Castor trees grow unchecked in open areas. They grow to heights of 30 feet or more if there is enough ground water.  They are sometimes bigger than the small trees around this place. The seed pods when mature split with such force that the seeds get catapulted  to a couple of hundred meters from the mother plant and new plants grow to create a jungle in that area. This is a weed by all definitions.

These plants are highly toxic if consumed. The outer coverings of the seed contains a poison called ricin. Castor shrubs are native to Africa but like all weeds it is now found all over the world, especially the tropics and the sub tropical regions.
