cancer is essentially cells that duplicate imperfectly and don’t stop. think of it as a replication error
I remember the stories of the post war Japanese cities that were hit by the atomic bombs where the populace died from cancer years after the war ended.
radiation usually results in cell mutation, which most frequently presents itself as cancer

Next to an earthquake and floods, nuclear meltdowns are very scary.
earthquakes and floods leave an aftermath, but a perpetual meltdown is a disaster for decades

the surface is nice, but not for a waste containment tank- that should look corroded
