The white stork is a species of large bird, its plumage is mostly white with black on the wings, and the legs and beak of the adults acquire a red color. It measures an average of 100 and 115 cm from the tip of the beak to the end of the tail, and its wings can have a wingspan between 155 and 215 cm.
The white stork is a migratory bird of great distances. It passes the winter in Africa from the sub-Saharan zone to the south, in the Indian subcontinent and in areas of the Arabian peninsula. When migrating between Europe and Africa it avoids crossing the Mediterranean Sea, so it makes a detour by the Mediterranean Levant in the east, or by the Strait of Gibraltar in the West, because the thermal columns that it needs do not form on the water.
