Heroine Fanny Doyle at Old Fort Niagara

We are in the top floor of the French Castle in Old Fort Niagara in Upstate NY where they had gun (Cannon) openings in the dormers to shoot from high places. Here was a bronze plaque honoring the famous heroine Fanny Doyle.  She was the “Heroine of the War of 1812 on Nov 21, 1812.  During the most tremendous cannonading I have ever seen, she attended the Six Pounder on the old mess house with red hot shot and showed fortitude equal to that of the ‘Maid of Orleans’: George M’Feeley Lt Col commanding Fort Niagara.”  This plaque was made by the “National Society of the United States Daughters 1812”.
