There are so many surprising things at Luray Caverns in Virginia next to the Shenandoah National Park. Wherever you go inside these natural caverns you are seeing things that amaze. The columns of stalagmites and stalactites sometimes are many stories tall. Here is a famous formation called “Fried Eggs” that was caused long ago by broken off stalagmites leaving a circular center that has been touched by millions of people. I saw this formation 61 years ago when I was just a kid with my parents visiting Luray Caverns. It used to have a more yellowish center. I have even seen photos of a cut out cast iron skillet overtop the “eggs” making it look just like they were cooking.
