Cracked and Crazed Wooden Canoe in the Adirondacks

We are walking around the great big field called “The Green” at the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association’s (WCHA) meet at Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondacks of New York state. There are hundreds of wooden canoes on display here with many classic and ancient ones. This one was white skinned with a “crazed” and cracked outer paint on the canvas cover. This has occurred over many decades and appears to be original. Do you strip all this off or leave it like it is to preserve the patina?
