Canoe Form at the Canadian Canoe Museum

At the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Canada there are hundreds of great exhibits. Probably the most important Canoe Company that built wooden canoes in Peterborough Canada was the Peterborough Canoe Company. Here was an actual form for making board canoes at the factory. This is not a canoe, but a heavy semi-solid mold or form for making the canoe. Here you can see some ribs have been steamed and bent over the form in the slots. Next tapered cedar wood planks would be laid down and tacked to the ribs. When done planking, they would pull off the canoe hull and clench over the tacks from the inside. Note the stems are in place.
