A trick which periodically arises is the ‘voting’. This always ends badly. Users are asked to vote on the work of other users.
Uh huh.
You don’t need a genius I.Q. to appreciate that if I get the most votes I ‘WIN’, so why should I vote FOR you?
Hubpages used to call it ‘hubhopping’ which helped destroy that site, (among its’ other rip offs).
On Hubpages, users were to read and rate the articles of other uses.
You know how this turns out.
A user reads a great article, copies it, then gives the article a ‘thumbs down’.
The user contacts his/her friends to do the same thing.
The good article was voted down, and rejected.
And guess what happens next?
The user who copied the item would do some nip and tuck, publish it under their own name and get their same friends who down voted it to upvote it under the Plag’s name.
Most sites have abandoned this ‘voting’ although it does pop up now and then.
