One of the ways to protect yourself online is to post items which have little value and/or are shards of previously published items.
Many scam sites don’t care what you publish. It could be your shopping list. They are earning from the Ads.
The same is true when you post fragments of already published items.
So, you wrote a short story, in fact, you published an e-book. It has twenty chapters. Chop it into sixty bits and publish them one at a time on the site you think is a scam.
If the scam site doesn’t pay you, well if it was a real site it would have done some research.
