Both of Friday’s games in the Belarus Premier League went exactly opposite of what I expected. These matches prove how much parity is in the Belarus Premier League.
In the first match, FC Dinamo Minsk went on the road and stomped Smolevichy-STI (FK Vigvam Smolevichy) 3-1. Dinamo Minsk jumped out to the early lead with some stellar passing and an easy poach for Ivan Bakhar to go up 1-0 in the seventh minute. Then, in the 39th minute, a Smolevichy defender tripped up a Minsk player in the scoring area. Evgeny Shikava put away the penalty kick to put Dinamo Minsk up 2-0 at halftime.
Shikava scored easily in the 69th minute after a header that should have been counted as a goal was not by the referees. Play continued, but most of the players thought that the play was stopped. Shikava took advantage of this confusion by taking the ball from a Smolevichy defender and slotting the ball into the net. Always remain alert because the refs are still making mistakes. Smolevichy-STI scored on an own goal four minutes later. Dinamo Minsk moves all the way up into a tie for 4th place at the moment, while Smolevichy remains in 15th place. Even though Smolevichy did not show up today, 172 were in attendance at the Stadyen Haradski in Borisov.
FC Neman Grodno found their groove after not winning a match in a month with a 3-0 thrashing at home against Energetyk-BGU (FC Zvezda Energetyk-BGU Minsk). Both teams held serve with a scoreless tie at intermission. Grodno broke through with some ingenuity in the 66th minute. They played a free kick from their end as a long ball. A couple of deflections later, Gegam Kadimyan kicked it in over the goalkeeper to go up 1-0.
Then, the rest of the match became the Pavel Zabelin show. Zabelin scored off of a deflected cross in the 72nd minute. After that, Zabelin scored ten minutes later on a header to give Neman Grodno the 3-0 victory. Grodno moves up to eighth place, while Energetyk drops down to seventh place. With more implications on the line, the attendance was a little bit higher at the Stadyen Nyoman in Grodno with 265 adoring fans.
