Over the past decade, the AL Central has been perceived as one of the worst divisions in baseball. Nevertheless, optimism abounds in the AL Central as teams look to dethrone Cleveland from the division crown. However, some teams remain in rebuilding mode.
1. Cleveland Indians. The Indians will start off slow as SS Francisco Lindor will begin this season on the disabled list. However, Cleveland’s starting rotation should be enough to win this division. Kluber, Bauer, and Carrasco.
2. Minnesota Twins. The lineup of the Twins will absolutely be loaded this season with the additions of Nelson Cruz, C.J. Cron, Marwin Gonzalez, and Johnathan Schoop. If outfielder Byron Buxton is able to come back from injury, then the Twins could possibly win this division.
3. Chicago White Sox. Outfielder Eloy Jimenez is the favorite to be Rookie of the Year. If he plays the entire season, then the White Sox will improve by default. Plus, Chicago was able to bolster their pitching with starter Ivan Nova and closer Alex Colome. These moves were not high on everyone’s radar, but the fact that the White Sox are actually making moves is encouraging.
4. Detroit Tigers. The Tigers have appeared to have lost its bite because this team is really in rebuilding mode. This team needs some help.
5. Kansas City Royals. If the Tigers are in rebuilding mode, then the Royals are rebuilding royally. Based upon history, the Royals seem to be contenders about every 25 years. On the bright side, the Chiefs look to be really good for next season.
