A very old tree resides in Marlboro, New Jersey. It is a black willow tree that started growing before the Civil War. Today the tree is over 150 years old. The Marlboro Tree is very impressive with its size. This tree is the largest tree in Marlboro and has been certified as “State Champion”.
Usually, black willow trees can be found growing along streams and lakes. The wood of the tree is light and flexible and if cut, used for making artificial limbs, wicker baskets, and furniture.
Another thing that is special about the Marlboro tree is that it grows in an area where many dinosaur fossils were found. The town of Marlboro has made efforts to preserve this special tree so future generations can enjoy its majesty.
