The Butterfly Palace and Rainforest Adventure in Branson, MO

We recently took a little short trip to Branson, MO. It was just my husband, my mother because she lives with us, and my daughter and her family. We stayed at our timeshare there for the week and enjoyed our time in Branson.

One of the things we all agreed on doing was the Butterfly Palace. My granddaughter, who is having a birthday later this month (her 8th), was especially excited about going to see the butterflies.

The Butterfly Palace & Rainforest Adventure just reopened to the public on June 10, 2020. They have CDC guidelines in place and I was pleased to see that most everyone was following the rules. Guest were required to wear masks (age 4 and under were excluded), apply social distancing and asked to wash their hands for 20 seconds longer than usual. They also had hand sanitizing stations throughout the facility.

When you enter the building you are actually in the gift shop. This is a large gift shop and has lots of nick knacks and souvenirs related to both The Butterfly Palace & Rainforest Adventure. They also carried a nice assortment of wind chimes with butterflies, custom made t-shirts and other clothing. Another nice souvenir was the glass butterflies in a wide variety of colors.

I was surprised to find so many things to do at The Butterfly Palace. I thought we would just observe butterflies in their natural habitat. I was wrong. The Butterfly Palace has the following things to do:

– The Mirror Maze: This was a fun maze to walk through that wasn’t scary, but fun. It carried a “rainforest” theme and was fun for our family. The maze was a lot harder than it looked and I would not recommend to those with anxiety issues!

– Science Center or Reptile Room: Lots of exhibits in here including tree and dart frogs, lizards, geckos, skinks, and salamanders were found here. They even have an oversized cockroach. Each exhibit has an information card with all of the statistics about the animal and a photo of one in the wild.

– The Rainforest Theater: Catch a movie in 3D about the life of a butterfly and follow along through the life of 3 generations of the featured butterfly. This was a very interesting film and very educational for the kids.

– The Butterfly Aviary: Another rainforest theme here with exotic plants to create a “natural” habitat for the butterflies. There are also birds in here that are also colorful and beautiful. You can view over 1,000 butterflies on display in this exhibit. They also release new butterflies on a daily basis.

– The Banyon Tree Adventure: We missed this exhibit and I was sad to read about it later. This exhibit has you exploring and making your way through the Rainforest, where the Banyon tree grows. Ropes hang from the ceiling to mimic vines. Giant boulders, fallen pillars and vines all try to hinder your progress. Never fear, you will make your way out!

The Butterfly Palace & Rainforest Adventures is located at 4106 W. Hwy. 76 and open from 9 am to 5 pm. You can find discount tickets for admission in visitor books and booklets found all over Branson. The best part is you can come back for another visit for the following 3 days IF you keep your bracelet on and do not tamper with it.
