He was mayor of New York City during 9/11. That was his fame. When the terrorists attacked the World Trade Center, he responded, gaining respect. He was called ‘America’s Mayor’ and was Times Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’ and was given an Honourary Knighthood by Queen Elizabeth.
So here was a man who left a respectable legacy until her became Donald Trump’s puppet in 2018.
As Trump’s attorney he obtained media scrutiny, in particular due to allegations that he engaged in corruption and profiteering, promotion of conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.
Giuliani came under federal investigation for violating lobbying laws, and was a central figure in the Trump-Ukraine scandal which which resulted Trump’s first impeachment.
After the 2020 election he represented Trump in a large number of lawsuits to overturn the election results. He made many false allegations about rigged voting machines, polling place fraud, and an international communist conspiracy.
Giuliani spoke at the rally preceding the January 6th Capitol attack where he made false claims of voter fraud and called for “trial by combat”.
As a consequence, his license to practice law was suspended in New York State and in the District of Columbia in July 2021. He was also listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the federal prosecution of Trump’s attempts to overturn the election.
On August 14, 2023, he was indicted in the Georgia prosecution along with 18 other people.
Broke, disgraced, he personally went to beg Donald Trump’s help with paying his legal bills. He didn’t get the answer he wanted.
Disposing of those who no longer have use to him is Trump’s style. Giuliani had no use and is discarded as a used napkin.
