The way to defeat a Narcissist is to recognise him or her. The earlier the better.
If you’ve just met someone who sets off your alarm, walk off, (politely) to speak to someone else. In almost all cases, this’snub’ is so powerful, the Narcissist will disappear. For the Narcissist need you all to themselves.
It is as simple as that.
A Narcissist needs you all to him/herself. That is crucial.
No matter how sweet or charming or vulnerable the ‘someone’ seems to be, if you walk away, they become bitter and stalk off.
This is one of the ‘flags’ of a Narcissist, this need to be the focus. To put a Narcissist ‘on hold’ , as it seems, is enough to blast them away.
You can even use your cell phone as a diversion. In the mind of the Narcissist it is ‘how dare you disrespect me!’ and in anger, they withdraw.
Don’t look for them. If you do, you will meet a bitter creature who might sneer, “Well, obviously it was so much more important to you to speak to that other person…” as if your conversation was so crucial. For the Narcissist it is.
Remember, the Narcissist has him/herself as the centre of the Universe. Everything is ‘their way’, they ‘control’ everyone, and have such a sense of themselves as omnipotent that by merely putting someone else first, even for a moment, is the end of their interest.
