CTA Infrastructure on the Red Line at Catalpa (Warm Sepia) (2014-03-21 12-44-56c)
I’ve never seen the aqueducts near Rome but the support structure for Chicago’s famous L reminds me a lot of the photos I’ve seen of them. Structures like these are found all over the city where the tracks cross a street. (They are not all like this but there are plenty.) This is not unexpected given that they have a similar purpose. The supports for the aqueduct support an artificial “river” bringing water to the city. In Chicago they hold the railroad tracks on which the city’s rapid transit system runs. Both need to be strong and secure and the arches meet that need.
The photo was taken underneath the L tracks on the Red/Purple Line tracks at Catalpa Avenue (between Broadway and Winthrop).
The photo was taken with a Nikon Coopix P7700 camera. I used Luminar 2018 to apply the ‘Warm Sepia’ preset from the Inspired Style preset collection.

Just shows what skilled craftsmen the ancient Romans were…
That was amazing…I was sure it was Rome or Spain or someplace from the Roman Empire!
It’s interesting that, 2,000 years later, the same design is being used to support something heavy.
