Dominique expected to hear from the panel within 24 hours, but hadn’t. Maybe there had been another candidate as good as she was. Maybe there was another stage of vetting.
She went to work, came home, and relaxed. She told herself to take advantage suck all the down time she could, for when she was confirmed in the post, she would have a lot of pressure.
She knew the job was ‘sensitive’ and that there would be attempts made to bribe and trick her. She mentally created strategies so that there wouldn’t be any dramas.
She could play stupid, she could cancel meeting with those who had made overtures.
Dominique had no intention of letting her country or herself down by succumbing to bribes of any kind.
