Best Shoes for Three Common Foot Problems

Suffering from foot pain? Chances are, it will probably subside after a week or two. However, there are some persistent issues that will need further attention if you want them to go away for good. When you suffer from common foot problems like plantar fasciitis, bunions, and constant swelling, it can keep you from doing the things you love.

Don’t be held back by your feet! It’s important not only to treat your problems, but also to switch up your footwear, which may be the root cause. To get you back on your feet, we’ve listed three common foot problems and which shoes are best for each.

  1. Plantar Fasciitis

One of the most common causes of heel pain, plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar fascia, a long support system that runs from your toes to your heel. You’ll mainly feel pain first thing in the morning or right after exercising if you suffer from plantar fasciitis.

Best Shoes: The best way to care for this issue is to invest in men’s or women’s supportive sneakers with a thick, memory-foam like insole. Throw away any flip-flops or shoes that are completely flat and opt instead for a low-heeled shoe that has an orthotic-level footbed. You can also have custom insoles made to contour to the shape of your foot.

  1. Bunions and Corns

If you have bunions or corns, you know how they always seem to be irritated by your footwear. Any shoe with a narrow toe box will rub your swollen bunions or corns and cause them to get worse. Shoe shopping is a nightmare unless you focus solely on shoes with wide toe boxes and lightweight materials like cotton canvas.

Best Shoes: The best shoes for bunions or corns will let these problem areas breathe. When you try on shoes, be sure to take a walk around the store and see if it rubs at all. The shoe should be wide enough to leave space in between your bunion or corn and the interior of the shoe. When your bunions or corns are at their worst, opt for open-toed sandals that have arch support.

  1. Swollen Feet

Everyone gets swollen feet from time to time after a long day of standing, but if you feel your feet are holding fluid all the time and it’s causing you discomfort, it’s time to make a change in your footwear. For starters, try switching to a pair of women’s or men’s comfortable sneakers.

Best Shoes: Look for shoes with great arch and metatarsal support as well as cushioning from memory foam insoles or cork that will provide shock absorption. Instead of shoes made of leather or other thick materials, opt for lightweight cotton canvas shoes, or sandals with arch support. Most importantly, make sure your shoes are not too small! You should always try on shoes at the end of the day, not the beginning. Aside from swollen feet you should also for the best shoes for hammer toes.

  1. I had foot problems and body mechanic problems since birth. And I’m I’m my 60s now. For planters fischitis; most women over 50 have it. Yes wear comfortable shoes. For me, this is what worked: Omega 3 tablets. Probiotics, static stretching, exercising and meditation. And my pain is gone. No I’m not a doctor. And it may not work the same for everyone. No Othropedic Surgeon or Podiatrist like flip-flops because of the obvious foot. For me, I don’t have enough pairs of flip-flops. I love them to the moon and back. I wear them at home and to the beach. They spell freedom.
