All the Fourth Generation had was their Church. Their Church and Miriam House. And both were falling to ruin, just like their businesses had done.
Their Church, full of vacant pews, was ‘maintained’ by a drunk named Pinnock. He took his salary and all the freeness available, as well as moving in his daughter, which doubled the light and water cost to the Church.
His daughter had been useful. She had brought money into the coffer by whoring with one of the Church members. Alas, that member died, and none of the others seemed willing to fill the vacancy.
That meant his daughter had to go on the road.
Of course the members of the church didn’t know that the Watchman’s house doubled as a whore house.
