Cedar Rib Canoe at the Canadian Canoe Museum

Among the many exhibits of the Canadian Canoe Museum (CCC) in Peterborough, Canada just East of Toronto, there were of course many rare canoes. This canoe/ kayak is made of the rare cedar rib style with vertical cedar strips that interlock. Even rarer, it has full mahogany decks and full sailing rig with two masts. The cedar rib canoe was one of the hardest to make and the hardest to repair. Behind this canoe and to the right are “board and batten” made canoes of a very old and early style.
