Things to Consider When Choosing New uPVC Windows

Due to higher durability, strength and visual appeal, uPVC windows are becoming popular among homeowners, as well as the owners of commercial properties. However, choosing a perfect window for your house or office is not an easy task.

Today, the windows market has over approx. 350 uPVC windows manufacturers in India. So, the options are endless for the buyers. But somehow one question that always comes in the mind of buyers is, “how to know which uPVC window is better?”

In this article, we have put together some essential points that you must consider when buying new uPVC windows:

1. Strength: To determine the strength of uPVC windows, you need to check its multi-chambered profile that’s usually supported with galvanized steel. Good uPVC windows manufacturers often maintain standard thickness of the profile that varies between 2.0 mm and 3mm. Plus, the thickness of galvanized steel must range between 1.5mm and 3.0 mm.

2. High Energy-Efficiency: The double or triple glazed uPVC windows can be more energy efficient and they allow no airflow leakage. Moreover, the gasket’s minimum thickness must be around 3mm to enhance the energy-efficiency of windows. Usually, EPDM rubber and TPE materials are preferred for the gasket.

3. Sound Insulation: Again double or triple glazed uPVC windows are to be considered for better sound insulation. This is because these glazed windows offer very effective sealing, thanks to EPDM gaskets and silicone sealants.

4. Colour Stability: When selecting windows, you must consider colour stability because most outside windows have the tendency to fade or discolour due to climatic conditions. To ensure better colour stability, uPVC windows are treated with titanium dioxide during the manufacturing process.

5. Glass Thickness: All uPVC windows – be it single, double, or triple glazed – include toughened glass, normal float glass or laminated toughened glass. All these glasses have standard thickness levels. The standard thickness of the single glazed glass is about 6mm and the thickness of the double glazed glass is 6-16-6mm (it includes 6mm glass, 16 mm inert gas layer and again 6 mm glass). The triple glazed glass has a 4-12-4-12-4 thickness (it includes 4mm glass, 12 mm inert gas layer, 4mm glass, again 12 mm inert gas layer, and finally 4mm glass).

6. Security: It is another major thing to consider when selecting windows. uPVC windows are usually incorporated with high-quality hardware and concealed multiple locking systems. Check that stainless steel being used for the hardware, along with rust and corrosion resistant hinges and handles. You can have the choice to pick a single or a multi-point lock, depending on your security requirements at home. To be precise, a double glazed laminated glass uPVC window is considered more secure for a home.

7. Warranty: Generally, good uPVC window manufacturers offer a minimum warranty of around 10 years for their uPVC profiles. One year additional warranty is on the hardware. A reputed company even takes care of the customer after sales by offering services to handle issues like realignment of the window, broken handles, faulty sliders and broken hinge, as well as water penetration problem.
