The Encounter – 10

Denny never thought of the houses she lived in as ‘home’, any more than one could think of a hotel room as home.

It was just the next place.  And before the novelty wore off, she and her family would be gone.

She entered the house, calling a greeting to her mother, then found her bedroom.

Her mother was asking the expected questions on the first day of school, and she was giving the standard answers, then went to take a shower.

She cried in the shower for a few minutes.

She hadn’t cried this way since she was five.  She finished crying, then emerged as the free wheeling Denise Kuper.
