As I rode the elevator to the apartment where I lived with my parents and sister, I thought of Maxie. Never had I seen anyone who so captured my soul.
I tried to talk myself out of this, erase it, discard it, before I reached my door, but I couldn’t. I stood in the hallway a few moments trying to get myself out of contemplation of Maxie.
As I came down the hall, opened my door, there was my sister Jennie. Jennie, asking me what I thought of Maxie.
“Shhh…” I said pointing towards our parents bedroom.
Jennie grabbed my arm, dragged me to our room.
And I wondered if this was really happening.
