Jeff had been her friend; her best friend.
They met in First Grade. They liked the same T.V. shows, the same flavour ice cream.
Elizabeth lived North of the School, Jeff lived South.
In early days their parents would walk them or drive them to school, then pick them up. Years passed.
Elizabeth and Jeff went from First to Second, to Third, then, old enough, they were able to take themselves to and from school.
They had other friends, kids they walked to school with, kids they saw on weekend.
Their friendship continued in the same pattern through Elementary, Junior High, and into High School.
It was during the summer of their Junior Year in High School when they actually had a ‘date’.
Invited to a classmate’s party, they decided to go together. They spent the evening together, dancing and talking, and he walked her home.
They were discussing a match and decided to go together tomorrow.
