Imagine that you are in a relationship.
You may have sacrificed a job/family/dreams. You think you are safe. Then, you learn your spouse is seeing someone else.
Your sacrifices have killed you.
If you still had a job/family/dreams which you could use to obscure the end of your relationship, at least you would not be empty.
But you are empty because that other person, the one who has found someone else, the one who was your everything, has now made you a nothing.
If you could go back, would you have given up your job/family/dreams? Of course not.
So why did you do it? What did you expect to gain?
