Again Jayne changed her appearance.
She had left George with short brown hair. Now she had long red hair.
Not that she looked so different, but different enough that she felt camouflaged.
In this new place she met a man, a very big strong man named Eddie who was kind and gentle and nice. She thought about telling him the truth, her real name, her previous marriage, the fact she had two children, but decided not to.
She married Eddie Bryden as J.Carol Elder.
Maybe it was a fraud, maybe it wasn’t legal, it didn’t matter now.
What mattered was that she felt safe.
And feeling safe was what she needed.
