In typical domestic violence, the abuse goes emotional/ intellectual/ spiritual/ verbal/physical.
If one is aware of the signs, one can get out fast.
For example, the newly weds are in bed; “I should have married your sister…” he says.
Not as a joke.
The wife starts to cry, the husband, while not retracting begins to console the wife as if he’s superior.
If something like that happens to you, this is the first step. He will do it again. You can wait around for it to happen again, or you can leave.
Of course, you are ‘in love’ and will ‘suffer’… why?
If it’s a joke and he instantly retracts and apologises and says, ‘I guess it wasn’t funny’, okay… but if he doesn’t retract, be prepared.
For next week, (if that long) he’ll do it again and again, until it no longer works.
Then he’ll move on to another level of abuse.
This is why you don’t give him another chance.
