Becca, the mentally deranged ‘landlady’, told Mindy a lie about Lisa. Nothing that effected Mindy. Yet she grabbed it and confronted Lisa.
Lisa was stunned by Mindy’s ‘assault’, and instantly revised her opinion. Instead of Mindy just being silly, Lisa found her distasteful.
To allign with Becca ‘against’ her was, in effect, no more significant than a dog barking behind a locked gate, but emotionally it was a shock.
Why would Mindy turn against her with unsubstantiated remarks from a person she didn’t know as base?
After all, Lisa had known Mindy for a year. Nothing close or important, just someone who was encountered on occasion at a particular venues.
Lisa rented a room in a house owned by Becca. She avoided Becca as much as able for the woman was repulsive.
The location was why Lisa remained as it was, in all ways, convenient.
As Mindy needed a place to live and there was a vacant room, Lisa suggested the house, warning her, however, of Becca’s proclivities.
