Today, I decided to check out some videos about handwashing certain delicate items because I have some I need to do, but I am always scared to wash them, whether handwashing or using a washing machine. Besides silk and rayon blouses, I have corduroy shorts, bras, and delicate gym clothes.

Read Care Label
Test to see the item bleeds when wet. If so, it must be dry-cleaned.
In a bowl of water, add some detergent. Let it soak for 3 minutes.
Gently plunge it up and down in the water.
Rinse item under clean lukewarm water.
Place item on a clean towel, and slowly roll. Or, just lay flat on a towel.

This video explains how to safely wash cashmere, wool, and other knits. Such sweaters should be folded instead of hanged. Cedar blocks and lavender to repel moths.
Read care label
Inspect sweater and mend holds before washing.
Turn sweater inside out.
Use cold water and detergent for wool, such as Woolite, Baby Shampoo, and maybe even natural detergents. Gently squeeze the garment. Use a wash bag, if your washing machine has a wool cycle.
Only steam iron.
