When one works for the Boss from Hell, the same abuse that exists in marriage to a violent husband, exists in the office. The first three features of the domestic violent relationship; emotional, intellectual, spiritual abuse; the process in a marriage, are combined in the office.
The mixture is to make the employee feel stupid and incompetent.
This is done by insults, micro-management, overruling ideas, enforcement of rules, and the interference in the employee’s life.
Demanding one arrive early or stay late, and not paying overtime, (often claiming the employee owes time for taking a few minutes extra for lunch or something like that) are all aspects of working for the Boss From Hell.
The demands are such so to make the job the employee’s life, to replace the employee’s life.
When one refuses to come early or stay late, refuses to come in on weekends, the abuse received while the employee is there increases.
There is a lot of shouting and threats, but never ‘you’re fired’ for the Boss from Hell doesn’t want the employee to leave.
Just as the abusive husband will cry real tears when his victim wife prepares to leave, the abusive boss will offer more money or some benefit to keep the victim employee.
