Henri Matisse in Montreal

This modern abstract artwork at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal) seems unfinished to me but it is. It is an oil painting by the French artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954) painted in 1936. It is called “Portrait with Pink and Blue Face”. The model was Lydia Delectorskaya who was from Siberia, Russia and came to France when Japan and China were fighting over Manchuria. She modeled and stayed a friend of Matisse until his death in Nice.
