An interesting Christmas song that only has four notes is “Carol Of the Bells.” This song has been used in such movies as “Home Alone” and the animated series “South Park.” Originally this was not a Christmas song it was a Ukrainian folk chant. It told about the coming of the New Year which pre-Christian Ukrainians celebrated in April.
In the 1930s American composer, Peter J. Withousky gave this melody new lyrics and made the arrangement so that it could be performed by the NBC Symphony Orchestra. Soon the song became a Christmas standard.
