2019 NL West Preview

The NL West looks to be strong this season as the Los Angeles Dodgers will look to reach the World Series once again, but hope to win it this time after losing the series two times in a row.  The Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies ended up tied for the NL West Division title with LA taking the winner-take-all game after the season.  For both teams, they look to do better in the playoffs.  For the Diamondbacks, Padres, and the Giants, they look to improve upon last season in order to reach the postseason.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers.  The Dodgers appear to be the cream of the crop once again in the NL West Division.  Los Angeles still went to the World Series even with SS Corey Seager missing last season.  Having Seager back means that the Dodgers should be able to improve their win total from last season as they took a step back from two years ago.

2. Colorado Rockies.  The Rockies will continue to use the high altitude at home as an advantage by strengthening their lineup even more with the addition of Daniel Murphy.  Starting pitching was always a problem in Colorado, but Kyle Freeland looks like his progression as an ace will continue to soar higher into the Mile High atmosphere.

3. Arizona Diamondbacks.  Letting Paul Goldschmidt and A.J. Pollock go takes a lot of power out of the lineup, but they gained a tremendous amount of leadership with the addition of OF Adam Jones.  I’m talking about baseball and not football.

4. San Diego Padres.  Signing 3B Manny Machado as the key fixture in the youth movement for the Padres should pay dividends down the road.  However, San Diego will experience more growing pains this season.

5. San Francisco Giants.  This team is so bad that the Giants CEO decided to abuse his wife in public so that he would not have to watch San Francisco games in person until July.
