Our Family
We named the baby Robert, after Myra’s husband. For her, he was the baby she never had. She wanted him as much as we did. Of course she was the godmother.
For two weeks it was Cord and I and the baby, and Myra always hovering.
We had no qualm of leaving little Robbie with Myra, and returning to the Firehouse.
We knew our son was not only getting the best of care, but that letting Myra raise a child was giving her the greatest gift.
For our part, having her there as a surrogate mother meant that when there was another emergency or disaster, we could race across country without worry.
We could do our shifts without the slightest worry about our child.
In a way it was beyond perfection. We had a family, we had our jobs,we had everything.
