Khandar Fort of Sisodia dynasty is a prominent example from the list.
Located 40 kilometers away from Sawai Madhopur main city, this fort forms the boundary of Ranthambhore National Park.This invincible fort of medieval ear was ruled by the Sisodia dynasty and the Mughals before coming into the control of the Rajput Maharajas in the 18th century. Earlier known as the ‘security post of Ranathambore’ this fort has witnessed several attacks faced by its ruler. But due to its strategically construction over a vertical hill, it was always a very challenging task for the enemies to conquer this strong fort. But those painful and struggling stories still can be seen in the broken walls of this architectural monument.
Places to visit
Apart from the amazing natural surrounding tourists can also explore a number of spots within the fort.
- The Old Jain temple is the most famous temple of this fort. It has the rock cut idols of Jain Gurus.
- The Hanuman temple is renowned for its stone idol of Lord Hanuman with a demon under his feet.
- Among the others Chaturbhuja Temple, Govind Devji Temple, Jagatpalji Temple and Jayanti Mata Temple also attracts many devotees to this fort.
- There are two huge water tanks of medieval times, named as Ramkunda and Laxman kunda. Seven small ponds are also there around this two tanks.
- There is a popular picnic spot as well, Narsingha Dhar. Calm streams coming down from the rocks provides a lovely view to enjoy with your family and friends.
- Due to the proximity of Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary, travellers might get to see animals like tigers and leopard around the fort.
Best time to Visit
The best time to discover this ancient structure is between the months of October and March. This Pre and post winter season gives a perfect climate condition to enjoy the beauty of Khandar Fort.
Travelers Tips
- Unique medieval architecture, natural surroundings and wild animals will give you ample chance to show your photography talent. So do pack your camera with your luggage.
- It will take approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete this spot.
- The fort remains open throughout the week from 9:00 am to 17:00 pm.
- There is no entry fees for this fort.
