The most famous brunch meal consists of two halves of an English muffin topped with crispy bacon/ ham, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Reportedly, the recipe was invented by a Wall Street broker, Lemuel Benedict, who came to the Waldorf Hotel in New York with a hangover from the long night asking for eggs, buttered toast, bacon and little sauce on top of this. Since this happened in 1894, it looks like that NewYorkers and the rest of the world cures hangovers with Benedict for brunch for more than a century.
