BEHIND THE WORLD
I wanted to get away from where I was living, and a friend offered.
The house was not hers, it was her mother’s. Her mother is one of those self ordained ‘preachers’ who has as many rules as prison and thinks she is holy.
I went to stay in a derelict building on the property. It was old, falling to ruin, but I could see the sea and sky and smell the air and it was okay.
I was alone bathed in silence. Although the house was full of what didn’t work, was broken or missing, I was okay.
Of course, one can never predict how a self ordained ‘preacher’ would behave.
Although Preacher had no idea what condition this house was in she thought that telling me a huge price for water and electricity would have me going to my pocket.
Of course I didn’t, I had liived on my own, knew my consumption, and the fact was, I had been there ten days.
A few days later I sent her what I would have paid in town for a month, which was about 1/7th of what she had implied.
Although I was left mostly alone, the difficulty is that I have credit cards which could not be taken at any shop in the area.
The roads are so bad that to go like 7 kilometers takes 40 minutes, and to go to Port Antonio takes 2 hours although it is 39 kilometers away.
This meant, to go shopping I would have to take a bus or taxi. It wasn’t that expensive, but it wasn’t like walking down the road to a real supermarket.
My friend then wanted me to return to town, she’d rented a place. Shortly after, the Preacher ‘summoned’ me to talk about rent and I gushed about how I’d be leaving.
If the Preacher had given a price that matched the premises, it might be different, but she wanted to charge me what I’d pay for a decent room in a decent area in town.
I have always considered these ‘Preachers’ scammers. Now I have proof.
