3 Tips to stay Hydrated: How to Get the Habit

In case you didn’t know it, most of us are at least a bit dehydrated most of the time. In fact, some sources say that up to 75 percent of people are living in a state of dehydration. Water is life, and without proper hydration, the body and the brain can’t function quite as they should. The answer, of course, is to drink more water, and experts say that means sipping away throughout the day instead of waiting for thirst to hit. There are tons of sources to tell you about the benefits of proper hydration, and you may have decided it’s time for you to get the habit. Here are some tips to help you succeed.

1. Let Your Hydro Flask be Your Friend

Wouldn’t you love to take your best friends with you everywhere you go? With drinking more water being among the health goals you’d love to fulfil, make your hydro flask your friend! Take it with you wherever you go, and transform it to something more fun than just another water bottle. Hydro flask stickers can bring you positive messages, look cheerful, and will help you and your family to turn that ordinary water container into something they love having around. Whatever you do, keep your source of hydration closeby.

2. Feeling Hungry? Try Drinking Some water First

Weird but true: thirst signals are rather weak, and often, they’re interpreted as hunger. Before you start snacking, try drinking a little water. Give it a few minutes to take effect. You may find that you weren’t hungry after all! Apart from helping you to meet your hydration goals, trying water before you dig into food may help you to lose weight. If you’ve been eating well and still feel hungry, water may be the missing link. Reach for that water bottle, and show it you mean business!

2. Sip Sip Sip

Occasional draughts of water won’t be as effective as sipping all day long. Keep you flask beside you as you work, and do take it along when exercising. Sip and sip to keep your hydration levels up. It’s especially important when exercising. If you’re really going for it, you’re probably losing water at an alarming rate. As previously mentioned, your thirst signals aren’t as immediate or as strong as you might think. Wait for the trigger, and you’re probably already less hydrated than you should be. Preempt it and you could be onto a winning recipe for hydration success.

3. Drink Water Before and During Meals

Let’s get our facts straight. You can’t replace meals with water, and you should be eating three or more times a day. What’s more, drinking water before and during meals helps your body to absorb more water. So, to get the highest impact from your resolution to improve your hydration levels, drinking water with meals will give you a better result than trying to replace meals with water. How well is your hydration plan going? According to an expert whose work on hydration has been published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, clear urine is a possible sign that you’re not getting enough nutrients along with your water. Taking water with meals helps with its absorption: food for thought.

Get the Habit and Keep the Habit

Some wit once said that a lot of human ingenuity has gone into avoiding water-drinking. Just why we should have developed avoidance of something that is the privilege of the few (in global terms) isn’t all that clear. But if drinking water feels like a chore to you, there are other drinks that will help you to stay hydrated. Whatever drink you choose, it comes down to sipping all day long instead of glugging huge amounts sporadically. Water is cheap – even free – and it’s nature’s way of getting the job done. Add flavors if that helps you, but make sipping a habit. Your body will thank you.
