The ice cream cone was the first food she had eaten since she heard the news of Jeff’s death.
Really hungry, she wanted another, but her mother took her to a restaurant to have a bowl of soup. After that, one of those canape plates.
Then Elizabeth’s mother drove her to the beach, so they could just see the sea.
When they returned home, Elizabeth was more than functional, but not much more.
