Easy and Fun Ways to Celebrate Mardi Gras at Home

Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is a carnival celebration that starts after Three Kings Day, marking the Christian Lent leading up to Easter. Around the world, huge celebrations are held; however, this year, things may be a little different. With the COVID pandemic continuing, restrictions are in place to help reduce the spread. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate safely.

Below, we are going to discuss some easy and fun ways to celebrate Mardi Gras at home. Interested? Then keep on reading!

Deck out your home with decorations

While you may not be able to enjoy the parades and street decorations, a fun idea is to take the opportunity to decorate your home. Balloons, garlands, candles, and streamers in the iconic colors can instantly brighten up the space. These custom mardi gras beads can also be an excellent option for throwing, so make sure to stock up!

Cook some festive favourites

Food is a major part of Mardi Gras, and just because you are at home doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it! Start off the day with a Fat Tuesday staple… Pancakes! Don’t forget to top them off with plenty of syrup, whipped cream, and fresh fruit! For lunch, a PO-boy sandwich is a delicious option, and for dinner, a jambalaya full of shrimp, sausage, rice, and veggies is a treat. Lastly, for dessert, a king cake is also a must, so make sure you stock up on your ingredients!

Get crafty

DIY activities can be a great way to celebrate with the kids, so make sure you have some crafts prepared. You can try making your own masks with a free printable template, creating photo props, designing your own beads, or even playing around with face paint and makeup. The options are endless!

Dress up

To really get in the spirit of Mardi Gras, it’s important to dress up in the three colors. Purple, green, and gold symbolize justice, faith, and power, so check out your outfits to see what you have available.

Alongside this, don’t forget your wearable beads, masks, and other accessories! It’s all a part of getting in on the fun, even if you’re at home!

Play some music

No celebration is complete without some music, so make sure you pump some tunes during your party (being mindful of neighbors, of course). The blues, classic jazz, or zydeco is perfect if you want to stay true to New Orleans. However, there are so many incredible tunes from around the world that can be worth the listen. Enjoy yourself

Lastly, the most important way to celebrate Mardi Gras is to remember to enjoy yourself! While many of us are going through a difficult time, we must try and keep our spirits high and keep on moving forward. Yes, the pandemic is changing things, but by working together and sharing the love, we can get through it.
