The sand sculpting is known as the art form at the North American Sand Sculpting Championship. Every year the championship is held at the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival in the city of Virginia Beach in the U.S. state of Virginia.
The championship was named after Neptune, who was the Roman god of the sea. The festival lasts for ten days during which time the sand sculpting participants create their sand sculptures, Then the is the King Neptune Grand Parade and finally choosing the winners of the sand sculpting championship.
Participants are both amateurs and professionals who wish to compete. They begin with enough water to hold the sand together and then begin crafting with buckets, shovels, and whatever other tools they require. Natural seashore things such as seashells and seaweed are used for decoration. Once a sand sculpture is finished it should be preserved in a photo before the sea takes it all away again.
