Gabi didn’t know that I paid attention. In this way, a lot of things could appear to ‘slip by’ me .
The ‘prevention’ of various gaffes, i.e. cutting school, going to a dodgy party was a phone call to one of her mates mothers.
Hetty was one of the hovering Moms. I had the phone numbers of all the mothers in Gabi’s group. As hovering moms, they missed a lot of action because the daughters knew how to hide secrets.
After all, if someone is looking at you, you can’t steal that chocolate, but if they are looking away, (in a mirror that is unseen) you feel you can.
I was that mother who appeared unaware, but I think I knew more of Gabi’s moves, ideas, and planned ‘gaffes’ than any.
So there was Hetty and the others, hovering, and me, the one looking away.
When I learned the ‘secret information’ I would call Hetty, orone of the other Moms and reveal what was planned;
“They’re going to cut school tomorrow to see that movie…”
Hetty took the ‘secret information’, called the other mothers in the group. Then gave her daughter a talking to.
Tomorrow, the girls would be taken to school, and told they would be collected at three. The ‘gaffe’ was avoided.
And they could blame Hetty.
