The lake is located in the Antofagasta Region. The water is very brackish water and is marked by its beautiful, deep blue shade and heart-like shape. The lake is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve, the area around the lake is densely inhabited by birds such as flamingos, rhea, and the horned coot.
