Architectural iron bridge, the world’s first ferry bridge for pedestrians and vehicles
UNESCO declared it Monument of Humanity some years ago, recognizing its incalculable value. It was the world’s first metal structure ferry bridge and is considered a marvel of the engineering of its time, a “dream of laminated iron”. It was inaugurated in 1893 and has been in operation ever since.
