Near the end of the Civil War on April 9th of 1865 with the surrender by General Lee at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, General George Armstrong Custer was active in the war just miles away at Appomattox Station. He had engaged the confederates and captured some train cars just the day before on April 8th when the war was still very active.
