At strategically located areas on the grounds of Old Fort Niagara north of Niagara Falls in Upstate NY, there are three story towers. These are strong stone structures that housed soldiers that stood guard and were ready to fight at a moments notice. The lower floors were sleeping quarters for the troops and there were areas on the first and second floors for weapons and powder and cannon balls and rifles. The top floor was super strong with openings on all four sides for the many canon up there to protect the fort and shoot out across the bulwarks or the water wherever dangers were. There was even a chimney and fireplace to produce heat on the lower floor for the sleeping or waiting troops.
